Job Description

About the Role

The Law Society of Kenya seeks an Assistant Program Officer for the Legislation Directorate (Parliamentary Affairs & Legislative). This is a 1-year contract position (renewable subject to satisfactory performance) supporting legislative reform initiatives and parliamentary engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as principal assistant to the Program Officer — Parliamentary Affairs & Legislation
  • Assist in initiating and developing programmatic areas on legislative reforms in Kenya
  • Assist in initiating donor funding proposals for legislative reform programs
  • Initiate and sustain effective interaction with local and international collaborators on legislative reforms
  • Monitor trends of emerging contemporary issues nationally, regionally, and internationally
  • Assist in preparation and production of timely programme reports
  • Enhance service delivery in the Legislation Department

Responsibilities

  • Assist Program Officer on parliamentary affairs and legislation
  • Develop programmatic areas on legislative reforms
  • Draft donor funding proposals
  • Maintain relationships with collaborators
  • Monitor contemporary legal issues and legislative trends
  • Prepare programme reports

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from a recognized university
  • Post-graduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law
  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with minimum 3 years working experience
  • Demonstrated skills in legislative drafting, policy review, and formulation
  • Excellent understanding of the legislative process in Kenya
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
