Job Description
Jumia Kenya, East Africa's largest e-commerce platform, seeks a Data Protection Officer to lead compliance with the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019 and ODPC regulations. The role ensures Jumia's operations — including customer data processing, third-party marketplace seller data, and payment processing — comply with data protection requirements.
Responsibilities
Serve as the registered DPO with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner. Conduct data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) for new products and features. Manage data subject access requests (DSARs). Develop and maintain Jumia's data protection policies and training programme. Handle data breach notifications and coordinate incident response. Advise on cross-border data transfers and adequacy decisions.
Requirements
LLB or IT degree with legal/compliance focus. 3-5 years experience in data protection, privacy, or information security. CIPP/E, CIPM, or CDPO certification strongly preferred. Knowledge of Kenya Data Protection Act 2019, EU GDPR, and cross-border data transfer mechanisms.
