About the position
As an Employment Counsel at TikTok, you will play a crucial role in providing legal guidance on all aspects of employment law for the company's operations. This position is integral to supporting TikTok's innovative initiatives and ensuring compliance with employment regulations across various regions. You will work closely with the HR team to address day-to-day employee lifecycle issues, including hiring, leaves and accommodations, compensation and benefits, terminations, reorganizations, and other organizational matters. Your expertise will be essential in drafting and updating employment-related agreements, templates, and documentation, such as employment policies and agreements, to ensure they align with current laws and best practices. In addition to providing legal advice, you will guide investigative teams in workplace investigations, ensuring that all processes are handled with the utmost care and legal compliance. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will effectively support and work with colleagues around the world to provide legal advice on employment matters that consider both global and regional needs. You will also strategically manage any pre-litigation employment disputes, working to resolve issues before they escalate to litigation. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a builder mentality, able to proactively advise and adapt to the rapidly evolving business landscape at TikTok. You will be expected to demonstrate excellent judgment, personal integrity, and discretion regarding confidential matters, while also showcasing strong interpersonal skills. Your ability to simplify complex legal issues for the business in a clear and concise manner will be vital in ensuring that all stakeholders understand their legal obligations and rights.
Responsibilities
- Provide advice and counsel on all aspects of employment law for the Company's operations.
- Advise HR on day-to-day employee lifecycle issues, such as hiring, leaves/accommodations, compensation and benefits, terminations, reorganizations, and other organizational matters.
- Draft and update employment-related agreements, templates, and documentation, including employment policies, employment agreements, and process documents.
- Guide investigative teams in workplace investigations.
- Effectively support and collaborate with colleagues around the world to provide legal advice on employment matters in a manner that considers global and regional needs.
- Strategically manage any pre-litigation employment disputes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school with bar membership in good standing.
- Experience in private practice or a corporate legal department with a highly-regarded firm or organization practicing employment law counseling and/or employment litigation.
- Ability to research and advise on complex legal questions.
- Demonstrated judgment, personal integrity, discretion regarding confidential matters, and inter-personal skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with high attention to detail, including the ability to handle a varied workload and prioritize as needed.
- A team player who is adaptable and willing to pitch in to support colleagues and the growth of the business.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal issues for the business in a clear and concise manner.
Nice-to-haves
- Previous experience of advising on cross-border employment law matters with an Americas focus.
- Exposure to working in a fast-paced in-house legal environment is a plus.

Compensation
$200,000 - $275,000/year
