Job Description

Madison General Insurance Kenya Limited, a subsidiary of Madison Group, seeks a Legal Officer to assist in planning and executing the operational performance of the Legal Section. The officer will handle insurance claims litigation, manage external advocates, and provide legal opinions on claim outcomes. This role involves verifying policy coverage on new claims, maintaining file documentation, liaising with insureds and external advocates, and processing judgements within strict timelines.

Responsibilities

• Verify policy coverage on new claims and ensure policy condition compliance • Communicate with insureds regarding claim documentation and court attendance • Appoint advocates within three days of receiving summons • Liaise with external advocates and insureds ahead of court dates • Provide researched opinions on litigation outcomes and settlement parameters • Review ongoing cases and advise management on strategy • Process judgements within five days and forward to Finance • Submit monthly status reports on allocated matters • Respond to correspondence within 24 hours

Requirements

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognised university • Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with valid Practicing Certificate • Registered member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing • Minimum 2 years post-admission experience in insurance sector • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills • Demonstrated integrity and professional competence • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
