Position Overview
Job Description
The European Central Bank is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its Legal Services directorate in Frankfurt. You will provide legal advice on EU financial law, banking supervision under the SSM, and monetary policy matters, working in a multilingual and multicultural environment at the heart of European financial governance.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on ECB supervisory decisions and SSM framework regulation
- Advise on EU banking regulation including CRR/CRD, BRRD, and SRM Regulation
- Draft ECB legal instruments including regulations, decisions, and guidelines
- Represent the ECB in legal proceedings before the CJEU and General Court
- Advise on monetary policy legal questions and TARGET2 payment system matters
- Contribute to ECB consultations on draft EU legislation
- Coordinate with national competent authorities on supervisory legal matters
Requirements
- Law degree from an EU member state with outstanding academic results
- 5-10 years of experience in EU financial law, banking supervision, or central banking
- Deep knowledge of EU Treaties, CRR/CRD, BRRD, and SSM Framework Regulation
- Experience with litigation before EU courts is a strong advantage
- Fluent in English (working language of the ECB); German and other EU languages are a plus
- EU citizenship required
- Ability to work in a multicultural, multilingual team environment
