To become a lawyer (legal practitioner) in Namibia, first complete an LLB from the University of Namibia or an equivalent recognized law degree. You then undertake the one-year postgraduate practical-training course at the Justice Training Centre at UNAM in Windhoek, which includes at least a nine-month attachment to a practising legal practitioner. You must pass the Legal Practitioners' Qualifying Examination, conducted by the Justice Training Centre and moderated by the Board for Legal Education, and obtain the Board's certificates. Finally, you apply to the High Court of Namibia for admission under the Legal Practitioners Act 15 of 1995; the Law Society of Namibia regulates the profession and all enrolled practitioners must be members.
