To become a lawyer in Kuwait, you first earn a recognised law degree and must meet registration conditions including Kuwaiti nationality, full civil capacity and good conduct. You then complete the required period of supervised training/practice and are entered on the roll of practising lawyers under Law No. 42 of 1964 (as amended by Law No. 62 of 1996), which regulates the legal profession before the courts; registration is compulsory. Your rights of audience are tiered, so appearing before the more senior courts requires additional years of practice. The Kuwait Bar Association (Kuwaiti Lawyers Association), established in 1963, is the professional body, while admission and licensing run through the Ministry of Justice.
The Ministry of Justice maintains the register/roll of lawyers and licenses practice, alongside the Kuwait Bar Association (Kuwaiti Lawyers Association), the professional body established in 1963. The profession is governed by Law No. 42 of 1964 (regulating the legal profession before the courts), as amended by Law No. 62 of 1996.
