To become a lawyer in Colombia you complete a law degree (programa de derecho) from a recognized university. If you began your degree after 28 June 2018, you must pass the State Examination for Lawyers (Examen de Estado) under Law 1905 of 2018, administered through the Consejo Superior de la Judicatura. You then register in the National Registry of Lawyers (Registro Nacional de Abogados) and obtain the professional card (tarjeta profesional) issued by the Consejo Superior de la Judicatura, which is required to practise. Colombia has no mandatory unified bar association.
