Job Description

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Legal Services Directorate is seeking a Legal Counsel to advise on financial regulation and banking supervision matters. The CBN, established in 1958, is responsible for monetary policy, financial system stability and regulation of all deposit money banks, microfinance banks and other financial institutions in Nigeria.

The Legal Counsel will provide advisory support on BOFIA 2020 compliance, licensing, enforcement actions and policy development.

Responsibilities

Advising on banking licensing, supervision and enforcement actions
Reviewing and drafting CBN circulars, guidelines and regulatory frameworks
Providing legal support for financial stability and monetary policy decisions
Representing the CBN in regulatory proceedings and litigation
Advising on anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing compliance

Requirements

LL.B and B.L. with admission to the Nigerian Bar
5-8 years post-call experience in banking regulation, financial services or corporate law
Strong knowledge of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) 2020 and CBN regulations
Experience with regulatory enforcement proceedings preferred
Nigerian citizenship required
