Legal Officer — Banking Regulation at Bank of Uganda

The Bank of Uganda, the country's central bank, is seeking a Legal Officer for its Legal Department. The role involves providing legal advisory services on banking regulation, monetary policy, and financial supervision matters. The Bank of Uganda employs over 900 staff and plays a critical role in maintaining financial stability in Uganda.

• Provide legal advisory services to the Bank on banking regulation and supervision matters
• Draft and review contracts, memoranda of understanding, and intergovernmental agreements
• Handle litigation and dispute resolution on behalf of the Bank
• Advise on licensing and supervision of financial institutions
• Review and draft secondary legislation including regulations and guidelines
• Provide legal opinions on monetary policy and foreign exchange transactions
• Liaise with external legal counsel on complex matters

• LLB degree from a recognized university (Upper Second Class or above)
• Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre
• Enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda
• 3-5 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in financial regulation or banking law
• Knowledge of the Bank of Uganda Act, Financial Institutions Act, and related legislation
• Master's degree in law (LLM) is an added advantage
• Uganda Law Society membership in good standing
