Job Description

Labour Law Counsel — Petronas

Petronas is seeking a Labour Law Counsel to join its Legal Division at the Petronas Twin Towers in KLCC, Kuala Lumpur. The role involves advising on employment and industrial relations matters across Petronas's Malaysian operations, including its upstream subsidiaries, downstream petrochemical plants, and corporate headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on compliance with the Employment Act 1955, Industrial Relations Act 1967, and Employees' Minimum Standards of Housing, Accommodations and Amenities Act 1990 for Petronas's operational sites
  • Handle industrial disputes, unfair dismissal claims, and trade union matters before the Industrial Court of Malaysia
  • Draft and review employment contracts, collective agreements, and HR policies for Petronas's workforce of over 50,000 employees
  • Advise on expatriate employment, work permits, and foreign worker compliance for Petronas's international operations
  • Handle workplace safety legal matters and coordinate with DOSH (Department of Occupational Safety and Health)
  • Manage external counsel on employment litigation matters across Malaysian states

Requirements

  • Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya with 5-8 years PQE in employment and industrial relations law
  • Strong knowledge of the Employment Act 1955, Industrial Relations Act 1967, and OSHA 1994
  • Experience appearing before the Industrial Court of Malaysia
  • Experience advising large employers on workforce restructurings, VSS/MSS schemes, and collective bargaining
  • LL.B. from a recognised university; CLP holder
  • Excellent English and Bahasa Malaysia skills
  • Experience in the oil and gas sector or heavy industry is preferred
