Job Description
Bennett Jones LLP is seeking an Associate for its nationally ranked Energy practice at Bankers Hall East in Calgary's downtown core, adjacent to the Calgary Courts Centre. You will advise oil and gas companies, pipeline operators, and renewable energy developers on regulatory, transactional, and environmental matters across Alberta and Western Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on oil and gas transactions including farm-outs, joint ventures, and asset dispositions under Alberta's Mines and Minerals Act
- Prepare regulatory filings with the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) and the Canada Energy Regulator (CER)
- Draft and negotiate midstream and pipeline agreements, royalty arrangements, and surface lease agreements
- Advise on environmental compliance under the Alberta Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act
- Support clients in proceedings before the Court of King's Bench of Alberta
Requirements
- Called to the Bar in Alberta (Law Society of Alberta member)
- 3-6 years post-call experience in energy, oil & gas, or natural resources law
- JD or LLB from a recognized law school
- Familiarity with AER regulations and OGCA framework
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills
