Job Description

Senior Legal Counsel — Energy & Environment at OMV

OMV AG, Austria's leading international oil, gas, and chemicals group, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Group Legal department in Vienna, specializing in energy transactions, environmental law, and international arbitration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on upstream and downstream energy transactions, including joint operating agreements, production sharing contracts, and LNG sale agreements
  • Handle environmental and sustainability legal matters, including emissions trading and ESG compliance
  • Manage international arbitration proceedings (ICC, ICSID) and complex cross-border disputes
  • Advise on regulatory compliance in energy markets across Europe and the Middle East
  • Support the energy transition strategy with legal advice on renewables, hydrogen, and carbon capture projects

Requirements

  • Austrian or equivalent legal qualification with 8+ years of energy law experience
  • Proven track record in international energy transactions and/or arbitration
  • Understanding of Austrian and EU environmental legislation and emissions trading
  • Experience with major oil & gas or energy companies, or a leading energy law practice
  • Fluent in German and English; additional languages are a plus
