Senior Legal Counsel – Energy & Climate at Shell
Shell is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our in-house legal team in The Hague, focusing on energy transition, climate regulation, and environmental compliance.
About the Role
You will provide strategic legal advice on the energy transition, including renewable energy projects, carbon trading, hydrogen initiatives, and compliance with Dutch and EU environmental regulations. The role involves advising on the Dutch Climate Agreement (Klimaatakkoord), EU Green Deal legislation, and emission trading schemes.
Requirements
- Law degree (meester in de rechten or LL.M.) with specialisation in energy or environmental law
- 8-12 years of experience in energy law, environmental regulation, or climate policy
- Knowledge of Dutch environmental legislation (Wet milieubeheer, Omgevingswet)
- Experience with EU ETS, CBAM, and sustainability regulations
- Fluent in English; Dutch language skills are an advantage
- Experience in the energy sector is strongly preferred
