Job Description

Energy & Projects Lawyer — TotalEnergies Algeria

TotalEnergies, a global multi-energy leader, is seeking an Energy & Projects Lawyer for its Algerian operations based in Algiers. This role provides an exceptional opportunity to work on major upstream and downstream energy projects in one of Africa's most important hydrocarbon-producing countries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support for upstream exploration and production activities, including joint venture operations with Sonatrach
  • Draft and negotiate EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) contracts, service agreements, and procurement documents
  • Advise on environmental compliance under Algeria's environmental protection legislation
  • Handle employment law matters related to Algeria's Labor Code and collective bargaining agreements
  • Support dispute resolution proceedings, including mediation and international arbitration
  • Advise on HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) legal requirements for operational sites
  • Coordinate with TotalEnergies' global legal network on cross-border matters

Requirements

Master's degree in Law (preferably Energy Law, International Business Law, or Project Finance Law). 5-7 years' experience in energy law, project finance, or related fields. Strong knowledge of Algeria's hydrocarbon regulations and investment framework. Experience with EPC contracts and international construction agreements. Fluency in French and English required; Arabic highly desirable. Familiarity with FIDIC contracts and international arbitration rules (ICC, LCIA). Prior experience in the oil and gas sector preferred.
