Job Description

International Trade & Investment Counsel — Quisumbing Torres (Baker McKenzie Philippines)

Quisumbing Torres is seeking an International Trade & Investment Counsel to advise multinational corporations and foreign investors on doing business in the Philippines. Based in Makati CBD, the role involves navigating the Philippines' foreign investment regulations, trade agreements, and special economic zone incentives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise foreign investors on market entry strategies, investment structures, and compliance with the Foreign Investments Act (FIA) as amended and the Philippine Constitution's foreign ownership restrictions
  • Handle registrations with the Board of Investments (BOI), Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), and Subic/Clark special economic zones
  • Advise on trade remedies, customs regulations, and tariff classifications under the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA)
  • Negotiate and structure joint ventures, build-operate-transfer (BOT) agreements, and public-private partnerships
  • Provide guidance on the CREATE Act (RA 11534) fiscal incentives and Strategic Investment Priority Plan (SIPP)
  • Coordinate with Baker McKenzie's global trade practice on ASEAN integration, RCEP, and bilateral trade matters

Requirements

  • Admitted to the Philippine Bar with active IBP membership
  • 5-8 years of experience in international trade, foreign investment, or regulatory law
  • Expert knowledge of the Foreign Investments Act, CREATE Act, BOI and PEZA regulations
  • Experience advising foreign investors and multinational corporations on Philippine market entry
  • J.D. or LL.B. from a top Philippine law school; LL.M. in international trade or investment law is an advantage
  • Excellent English communication and cross-cultural advisory skills
  • Knowledge of ASEAN trade agreements and international investment treaties
