Job Description

Senior Associate — Real Estate & Property Law at Katende Ssempebwa & Company Advocates

KATS, Uganda's largest and longest-established law firm (since 1969), is seeking a Senior Associate for its Real Estate and Property Law practice. The role involves advising developers, institutional investors, and multinational corporations on property transactions, land acquisition, and real estate development in Uganda.

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on land acquisitions, dispositions, and development projects
  • Conduct property due diligence including title searches at the Ministry of Lands
  • Draft and review sale agreements, lease agreements, and mortgage instruments
  • Handle property registration at the land registry
  • Advise on land use planning and zoning regulations
  • Represent clients in land disputes before courts and the Land Tribunal
  • Supervise junior associates on property transactions

Requirements

  • LLB degree from a recognized university
  • Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre
  • Enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda
  • 5-7 years of experience in real estate and property law in Uganda
  • In-depth knowledge of the Land Act, Registration of Titles Act, and related legislation
  • Experience in property due diligence and conveyancing
  • Understanding of mailo, freehold, leasehold, and customary land tenure systems
