Head of Legal

Bank Muscat, the largest bank in the Sultanate by assets, is seeking a Head of Legal for its headquarters on Airport Heights Road, Seeb, Muscat. This executive role oversees the entire legal function including litigation management, regulatory compliance, and contract advisory across retail, corporate, investment, and Islamic banking (Meethaq) divisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the legal department of 15+ lawyers and manage the bank's external counsel panel
• Advise the Board and senior management on Central Bank of Oman regulatory developments and compliance
• Oversee litigation portfolio including loan recovery, guarantee enforcement, and commercial disputes
• Review and approve high-value credit facility documentation, security packages, and syndicated loan agreements
• Ensure compliance with AML/CFT regulations, sanctions screening, and the banking secrecy framework

Requirements

• LLB and LLM from a recognised university; banking or finance specialisation required
• Admitted as Lawyer/Legal Adviser; Oman Bar admission strongly preferred
• 12+ years PQE with at least 5 years in a senior banking legal role
• Deep knowledge of CBO regulations, the Banking Law, and Islamic banking framework
• Bilingual Arabic and English essential
