Commercial Bank of Ceylon, Sri Lanka's largest private-sector bank, seeks a Legal Officer for its Credit Recovery division at Commercial Bank Towers, Fort, Colombo 1. The Legal Officer will manage the bank's loan recovery portfolio, utilising both Parate Execution powers and court-based recovery mechanisms.

This role is central to the bank's risk management framework, handling non-performing loan recovery proceedings at the District Court of Colombo in Hulftsdorp and across island-wide courts. You will work with the Banking Act, the Recovery of Loans by Banks (Special Provisions) Act, and the Mortgage Act, ensuring the bank's lending portfolio is protected through robust legal enforcement.

• Manage the bank's non-performing loan recovery portfolio across multiple jurisdictions
• Execute Parate proceedings under the Recovery of Loans by Banks (Special Provisions) Act
• File and prosecute debt recovery actions at the District Court of Colombo and other courts
• Coordinate with external panel lawyers on island-wide recovery proceedings
• Advise the credit department on security documentation and enforcement options
• Handle insolvency and winding-up proceedings under the Companies Act

• Attorney-at-Law admitted by BASL with 3–5 years' post-admission experience
• Experience in credit recovery, debt enforcement, and banking litigation
• Knowledge of Parate Execution procedures, Mortgage Act, and Recovery of Loans by Banks Act
• Familiarity with the Banking Act and Central Bank prudential regulations
• Experience appearing before District Courts and the Commercial High Court
• LL.B. from a recognised institution
• Sinhala and English proficiency required; Tamil an advantage
