Job Description
Legal Research & Writing Specialist — Content Moderation & Platform Law (Fully Remote)
Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com and Tumblr, is hiring a Legal Research & Writing Specialist to support our Trust & Safety and legal teams. You'll research emerging platform liability issues, content moderation law, and digital speech rights.
Automattic has been a distributed company since 2005 with 2000+ employees across 90+ countries. We communicate primarily through written text (P2 blogs, Slack) with no offices anywhere.
What You'll Do:
- Research and analyze platform liability, Section 230, and content moderation legal issues
- Draft legal memoranda, policy analysis documents, and regulatory comment letters
- Monitor legislative developments affecting online platforms globally
- Support litigation with legal research and brief drafting
- Collaborate with policy teams on content governance frameworks

Responsibilities
Conduct legal research on platform liability and content moderation. Draft legal memoranda and policy analysis documents. Monitor global legislative developments affecting online platforms. Support litigation with research and brief drafting. Maintain internal knowledge base on platform law developments.
Requirements
JD or LLM preferred; strong legal research background required. 1-3 years of legal research experience, clerkship, or academic legal writing. Knowledge of internet law, Section 230, and content moderation legal frameworks. Excellent legal writing and analytical skills. Comfort with fully distributed, text-based work environments.
