Job Description
The Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio (SIC), Colombia's competition, consumer protection, and IP authority, seeks a specialised professional for the Competition Division (Delegatura para la Protección de la Competencia) in Bogotá. The role involves conducting merger reviews, investigating anti-competitive agreements (cartels), and analysing abuse of dominance cases under Ley 1340 de 2009.
The SIC is Colombia's most active enforcement authority, having imposed record fines on cartels and blocked significant mergers. This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of competition law enforcement in Latin America.
Responsibilities
- Conducting merger review analysis including market definition and competitive effects assessment
- Investigating anti-competitive agreements (horizontal and vertical) under Ley 1340 de 2009
- Preparing investigation reports and administrative resolutions for the Superintendente
- Analysing abuse of dominant position complaints and market studies
- Coordinating with international competition authorities on cross-border investigations
Requirements
- Título de Abogado and active Tarjeta Profesional
- 3-6 years of experience in competition law, regulatory law, or economic regulation
- Strong knowledge of Ley 1340 de 2009 and Decreto 4886 de 2011
- Understanding of merger control analysis (market definition, competitive effects assessment)
- Analytical skills for economic evidence assessment in cartel investigations
- Specialisation (especialización) or Master's in competition law, economic law, or public law preferred
