Banking Law Apprenticeship — FJ & G de Saram

FJ & G de Saram invites law graduates to apply for a 6-month paid apprenticeship in its Banking and Finance Law department at its Colombo 3 offices. This apprenticeship satisfies the mandatory 6-month apprenticeship requirement under a senior Attorney-at-Law for admission to the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL).

Apprentices will gain practical exposure to banking law, loan documentation, mortgage procedures, and debt recovery proceedings. The firm's 150-year legacy in banking law provides an exceptional training ground, with access to work governed by the Banking Act, the Recovery of Loans by Banks Act, and Central Bank directives. Apprentices will attend proceedings at the Hulftsdorp courts and visit the Land Registry for title searches.

• Assist Attorneys-at-Law with loan documentation review and mortgage preparation
• Conduct title searches at the Land Registry under supervision
• Observe debt recovery proceedings at the District Court of Colombo in Hulftsdorp
• Research banking law issues under the Banking Act and Central Bank regulations
• Assist with security documentation including guarantees, debentures, and charges
• Maintain filing systems and assist with document management for banking transactions

• LL.B. from a recognised Sri Lankan university or Sri Lanka Law College
• Completion of all academic requirements for BASL admission
• Eligible for the mandatory 6-month apprenticeship under the Judicature Act
• Strong interest in banking and finance law
• Good academic performance in commercial law, property law, and civil procedure
• Proficiency in English required; Sinhala essential
• Commitment to the full 6-month apprenticeship period
