Job Description
Ecopetrol is hiring a mid-level environmental lawyer to support its sustainability and energy transition initiatives. The role involves advising on environmental licensing (ANLA), prior consultation with indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities (Consulta Previa), environmental impact assessments, and compliance with Colombia's environmental regulatory framework.
As Ecopetrol accelerates its energy transition strategy, the environmental lawyer will play a key role in renewable energy projects, carbon offset programmes, and compliance with Colombia's Paris Agreement commitments and Ley 2169 de 2021 (climate action law).
Responsibilities
- Managing environmental licensing processes before ANLA for hydrocarbon and renewable energy projects
- Advising on Consulta Previa processes with indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities
- Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and Ecopetrol's ESG commitments
- Supporting the legal framework for Ecopetrol's energy transition and renewable energy projects
- Coordinating with corporaciones autónomas regionales on environmental permits and monitoring
Requirements
- Título de Abogado and active Tarjeta Profesional
- 4-7 years of experience in environmental law, sustainability, or natural resources
- Knowledge of ANLA licensing procedures and Ministerio de Ambiente regulations
- Experience with Consulta Previa (prior consultation) processes under ILO Convention 169
- Understanding of carbon markets, environmental offsets, and ESG frameworks
- English proficiency for international sustainability reporting
