Job Description
Associate – Real Estate
Loyens & Loeff's Belgian practice is seeking a Real Estate Associate based in Antwerp, Belgium's second city and the world's diamond capital. You will advise on Belgian real estate transactions, property development projects, and real estate investment structures.
Antwerp's booming port expansion, logistics hub development, and urban regeneration projects around the Eilandje and Nieuw Zuid districts create significant demand for specialist real estate legal advice.
What You Will Do
- Advise on Belgian real estate acquisitions, dispositions, and lease agreements
- Structure Belgian real estate investment vehicles including GVV/SIR (regulated real estate companies)
- Advise on real estate development projects including construction law, environmental permits, and spatial planning (ruimtelijke ordening/aménagement du territoire)
- Conduct real estate legal due diligence including title, zoning, and environmental assessments
- Advise on real estate financing and security packages under Belgian mortgage law
Responsibilities
- Advise on real estate transactions from negotiation through notarial deed execution
- Structure real estate investments and financing arrangements
- Conduct legal due diligence on real estate portfolios
- Advise on construction, zoning, and environmental aspects of property development
- Collaborate with the firm's Benelux real estate team on cross-border transactions
Requirements
- Admission to the Antwerp Bar (Orde van Advocaten bij de Balie te Antwerpen) or Belgian Bar
- Master in Law from a Belgian university
- 3-5 years of experience in Belgian real estate law
- Knowledge of Belgian civil code provisions on property, leasing, and mortgage law
- Fluent in Dutch and English; French is an advantage
- Experience with GVV/SIR structures and real estate fund formation is desirable
