Job Description

Banking & Finance Associate Advocate — Pioneer Law Associates

Pioneer Law Associates invites applications for a Banking & Finance Associate Advocate (अधिवक्ता) to join its financial services practice at its Putalisadak, Kathmandu headquarters. Nepal's banking sector is undergoing rapid consolidation under Nepal Rastra Bank's merger directives, creating intense demand for banking law expertise.

The Associate will work on syndicated lending, trade finance, loan recovery, and regulatory compliance under the Banking and Financial Institution Act 2073 and Nepal Rastra Bank directives. This role provides direct engagement with Nepal's major commercial banks, development finance institutions, and the Debt Recovery Tribunal — offering a fast-track career in Nepal's most active transactional practice area.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and review loan agreements, security documents, mortgages, and guarantee instruments
  • Advise on regulatory compliance with the Banking and Financial Institution Act 2073 and NRB directives
  • Support syndicated lending and project finance transactions for hydropower and infrastructure
  • Handle debt recovery proceedings before the Debt Recovery Tribunal
  • Conduct due diligence on borrowers and collateral including title searches at the Land Revenue Office
  • Advise on foreign exchange regulations and cross-border lending structures

Requirements

  • Advocate licensed by the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) with 3–6 years' post-admission experience
  • Strong background in banking and finance law including loan documentation and security creation
  • Knowledge of the Banking and Financial Institution Act 2073, Secured Transactions Act 2063, and NRB directives
  • Experience with debt recovery proceedings before the Debt Recovery Tribunal
  • Understanding of anti-money laundering regulations under the Asset (Money) Laundering Prevention Act 2064
  • LL.B. from Tribhuvan University or equivalent; banking law coursework preferred
  • Excellent English and Nepali drafting skills
