Employment & Labour Law Attorney — D.L. & F. de Saram
D.L. & F. de Saram seeks an Attorney-at-Law specialising in employment and labour law for its Colombo 1 Fort office. Sri Lanka's labour law framework — one of the most protective in South Asia — requires specialist expertise, and the firm has built a leading practice advising employers across all sectors.
The role involves advising on compliance with the Shop and Office Employees Act, Wages Boards Ordinance, Termination of Employment of Workmen (Special Provisions) Act, and the Industrial Disputes Act. You will represent employers before Labour Tribunals, the Labour Commissioner, and the Court of Appeal, navigating Sri Lanka's Roman-Dutch employment law principles as they interact with modern statutory protections.
Responsibilities
- Advise employers on compliance with Sri Lanka's labour legislation
- Handle termination proceedings under the Termination of Employment of Workmen Act
- Represent clients before Labour Tribunals and the Commissioner of Labour
- Draft employment contracts, staff handbooks, and HR policies
- Advise on EPF, ETF, and gratuity calculations and compliance
- Handle industrial dispute resolution and collective bargaining matters
Requirements
- Attorney-at-Law admitted by BASL with 3–5 years' experience in employment/labour law
- Knowledge of the Termination of Employment Act, Shop and Office Employees Act, and Industrial Disputes Act
- Experience appearing before Labour Tribunals and the Commissioner of Labour
- Understanding of EPF, ETF, and gratuity regulations
- Familiarity with workplace safety regulations and Factories Ordinance
- LL.B. from a recognised institution; specialisation in labour law preferred
- Sinhala and English proficiency required
