Job Description

Maritime & International Trade Lawyer — Basra International Law Office

Basra International Law Office is seeking a Maritime & International Trade Lawyer to handle shipping disputes, port operations legal matters, and cross-border trade issues arising from Iraq's busiest port complex at Umm Qasr and the Khor Al-Zubair industrial area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise shipping companies, port operators, and logistics firms on Iraqi maritime law
  • Handle cargo disputes, bills of lading claims, and charter party disputes
  • Draft and review international sale contracts, letters of credit, and trade finance documentation
  • Represent clients in customs disputes before Iraqi customs authorities
  • Advise on sanctions compliance for international trade through Iraqi ports
  • Handle insurance claims and marine insurance disputes
  • Support clients with Iraqi import/export licensing and regulatory compliance

Requirements

  • Admitted to the Iraqi Bar Association
  • 3-6 years of experience in maritime law, international trade, or shipping
  • Knowledge of Iraqi maritime regulations and customs law
  • Experience with international trade documentation (L/Cs, bills of lading, etc.)
  • Fluent in Arabic and English
  • Familiarity with Umm Qasr port operations is an advantage
  • Understanding of sanctions regimes affecting Iraqi trade
