Job Description

Maritime & Shipping Lawyer — Clyde & Co Middle East

Clyde & Co's Dubai DIFC office is recruiting a Maritime & Shipping Lawyer to join our internationally recognized practice. You will handle ship arrests, cargo claims, charterparty disputes, and maritime regulatory matters in one of the world's busiest shipping hubs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle ship arrest applications before Dubai and Fujairah courts under UAE Federal Maritime Law (Federal Law No. 26/1981)
  • Advise on cargo damage claims, bills of lading disputes, and P&I club matters
  • Draft and negotiate charterparty agreements, shipbuilding contracts, and MOA sale and purchase agreements
  • Represent clients in maritime arbitration proceedings under LMAA and DIAC rules
  • Advise on UAE Maritime Law, International Maritime Organization conventions, and JAFZA port regulations
  • Handle collision, salvage, and general average claims across the Arabian Gulf and Indian Ocean

Requirements

  • 5-8 years PQE in maritime and shipping law
  • Experience with ship arrests in the UAE or wider Middle East region
  • Strong knowledge of international maritime conventions (Hague-Visby Rules, Hamburg Rules)
  • Familiarity with UAE Federal Maritime Law
  • Qualified in England & Wales, Australia, or equivalent common law jurisdiction
  • Willingness to handle urgent ship arrest matters outside regular business hours
