Internship Description
The Bank of Canada is offering a Legal Research Internship at 234 Wellington Street, Ottawa. This paid 4-month position provides law students with hands-on research experience in central banking law, financial regulation, and public sector legal work within walking distance of Parliament Hill and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Program Details
- Duration: 4 months (January - April or May - August 2026)

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research on the Bank of Canada Act, Payment Clearing and Settlement Act, and related financial legislation
- Prepare research summaries and legal memoranda for the Legal Services team
- Assist with comparative legal research on central banking frameworks across G7 jurisdictions
- Support access to information and privacy request processing under the Access to Information Act
- Attend legal department meetings and professional development sessions
Eligibility
- Enrolled in a JD, LLB, BCL, or LLM program at a recognized Canadian university
- Bilingual (English/French) required for Ottawa position
- Strong academic record with interest in financial regulation or public law
- Canadian citizenship or permanent residency required for security clearance
