Internship Description
Trainee – Banking Supervision
FINMA, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority in Bern, offers a Trainee position in its Banking Supervision division. This is a unique opportunity to gain regulatory experience at Switzerland's financial markets supervisor.
Programme Details
- Type: Government Traineeship (Praktikum)
- Duration: 6-month Praktikum
- Start Date: Rolling — next intake Q3 2026
- Eligibility: MLaw graduates from a Swiss university or final-year MLaw students; Swiss citizenship or C permit required
What You Will Do
- Support supervision teams in analyzing bank regulatory filings
- Conduct research on banking regulation (BankG, BankV, Basel III/IV)
- Assist with the preparation of supervisory decisions and correspondence
- Participate in on-site supervisory meetings (as observer)
- Contribute to internal regulatory policy projects
Responsibilities
- Support the banking supervision team on daily supervisory activities
- Conduct legal and regulatory research
- Assist with drafting supervisory correspondence
- Contribute to internal knowledge management
- Attend internal training and professional development sessions
Requirements
- MLaw graduate or final-year MLaw student from a Swiss university
- Interest in banking regulation and financial markets
- Fluent in German or French; English is required
- Swiss citizenship or C permit
- Strong analytical skills and interest in public service
