Job Description
Russell McVeagh is seeking an Associate for its Dispute Resolution practice at 157 Lambton Quay, Wellington, near the Wellington High Court and Supreme Court of New Zealand. Russell McVeagh's litigation practice handles New Zealand's most complex commercial disputes, class actions, and regulatory investigations. Wellington associates benefit from proximity to the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and key government regulators.
Key Responsibilities
- Run commercial disputes in the High Court and Court of Appeal, including contractual claims, company disputes, and judicial review proceedings
- Prepare submissions, briefs of evidence, and interlocutory applications under the High Court Rules 2016
- Assist with class action defence and representative proceedings under Part 4 of the High Court Rules
- Handle regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings brought by the FMA, Commerce Commission, and SFO
- Conduct legal research on complex statutory interpretation and Treaty of Waitangi issues
Requirements
- Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand with a current Practising Certificate
- 3-5 years PQE in commercial litigation or dispute resolution at a leading firm
- Experience with High Court proceedings and discovery processes
- Strong written advocacy and analytical skills
