Job Description

Lane Neave is seeking an Associate for its nationally recognised Insurance Litigation practice at its Christchurch headquarters. Lane Neave built its reputation through the Canterbury earthquake litigation, acting for major insurers and the Earthquake Commission (EQC) on thousands of claims. You will handle insurance coverage disputes, EQC matters, and professional indemnity claims.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise insurers and policyholders on coverage disputes under the Insurance Law Reform Act 1977 and Fair Insurance Code
  • Handle earthquake and natural disaster claims, including EQC Act 1993 disputes and Canterbury Earthquake Insurance Tribunal matters
  • Defend professional indemnity, public liability, and statutory liability claims
  • Represent clients in the High Court, District Court, and mediation proceedings
  • Advise on the Insurance (Prudential Supervision) Act 2010 and RBNZ licensing requirements

Requirements

  • Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand with a current Practising Certificate
  • 3-5 years PQE in insurance, litigation, or dispute resolution
  • Knowledge of the Insurance Law Reform Act 1977 and EQC Act 1993
  • Earthquake litigation experience highly regarded but not essential
