Associate — Trade & Customs

Consortium Legal Guatemala seeks an Associate for its Trade & Customs practice in Guatemala City. You will advise importers, exporters, and logistics companies on customs compliance, tariff classification, and trade remedies under the Codigo Aduanero Uniforme Centroamericano (CAUCA) and DR-CAFTA provisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise on customs valuation, tariff classification, and rules of origin under CAUCA/RECAUCA
• Represent clients before the SAT Intendencia de Aduanas on customs disputes and audits
• Draft customs compliance programs for importers and free zone operators
• Advise on DR-CAFTA, EU-Central America Association Agreement, and other FTA benefits
• Handle anti-dumping and safeguard proceedings before the Ministerio de Economia

• Manage a portfolio of customs advisory and compliance matters
• Prepare customs audit responses and administrative appeals
• Draft trade compliance manuals for export-oriented companies
• Coordinate with customs brokers and logistics providers

• Licenciatura en Ciencias Juridicas y Sociales from a recognised university
• Colegiado activo with the Colegio de Abogados y Notarios de Guatemala
• 3-5 years post-qualification experience in international trade or customs law
• Fluent in Spanish and English
• Knowledge of CAUCA/RECAUCA and DR-CAFTA rules of origin
