Job Description

Senior Oil & Gas Lawyer at CCW Partnership

CCW Partnership, one of Brunei Darussalam's most established law firms, seeks an experienced Senior Oil & Gas Lawyer to join its energy practice in Bandar Seri Begawan. The role involves advising on upstream and downstream petroleum transactions, production sharing contracts, and joint venture agreements for clients operating across Brunei's hydrocarbon sector, including work with Brunei Shell Petroleum and Brunei LNG.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate production sharing contracts (PSCs), joint operating agreements (JOAs), and farm-in/farm-out arrangements under Brunei's Petroleum Mining Act (Chapter 44)
  • Advise on regulatory compliance before the Department of Energy, including licence applications and renewals for petroleum exploration and production
  • Handle oil and gas dispute resolution, including arbitration under UNCITRAL rules and litigation before the Supreme Court of Brunei
  • Advise on environmental compliance under the Environmental Protection and Management Order 2016 for upstream operations
  • Support cross-border energy transactions involving ASEAN counterparties
  • Mentor junior lawyers and supervise trainees in the energy practice group

Requirements

  • Admitted to practise as an advocate and solicitor in Brunei under the Legal Profession Act (Chapter 132)
  • 8-15 years of experience in oil and gas law, energy transactions, or natural resources
  • Law degree from UBD, a UK university, or equivalent; LLM in Energy Law or International Commercial Law preferred
  • Demonstrable experience with PSCs, JOAs, and upstream petroleum contracts
  • Strong understanding of Brunei's petroleum regulatory framework
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Malay is an advantage
