Job Description

IP & Technology Lawyer at AIP Law

AIP Law, a forward-looking Brunei law firm, is seeking an IP & Technology Lawyer to join its growing practice in Bandar Seri Begawan. The role involves advising technology startups, digital economy businesses, and multinational corporations on intellectual property protection, data privacy, and digital commerce regulation in Brunei. This position aligns with Brunei's Wawasan 2035 strategy to diversify the economy through technology and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle trade mark, patent, and design registrations before the Brunei Intellectual Property Office (BruIPO)
  • Advise on copyright protection under the Copyright Order 1999 and trade secrets
  • Draft and negotiate software licensing agreements, SaaS contracts, and technology transfer arrangements
  • Advise on compliance with the Computer Misuse Act (Chapter 194) and emerging data protection regulations
  • Support digital economy clients on e-commerce regulations, digital payment licensing, and fintech compliance
  • Conduct IP due diligence for M&A transactions and joint ventures

Responsibilities

  • Lead the firm's intellectual property and technology advisory practice
  • Manage IP portfolios for local and international clients
  • Advise on emerging technology regulations and digital economy matters

Requirements

  • Admitted to practise in Brunei under the Legal Profession Act (Chapter 132)
  • 3-7 years of experience in intellectual property, technology law, or commercial law
  • Familiarity with BruIPO registration procedures and Brunei's IP legislation
  • Experience with technology contracts and digital commerce is highly valued
  • Law degree from UBD, a UK, Australian, or Malaysian university
  • Fluent in English; Malay language skills preferred
