Job Description

All qualification and time-in-grade (if applicable) requirements must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. You must meet the minimum qualification requirements as stated in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/Standards/group-stds/gs-prof.asp. Basic Requirement: First professional law degree (J.D.) accredited by the American Bar Association; and Active membership in the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia. (A copy of the applicant's bar card or letter from the bar showing admission and good standing may be acceptable evidence) Specialized Experience: GS-14 - In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants shall have professional legal experience in excess of 3 years that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be documented in your resume. Specialized experience is defined as: providing legal advice to management on a wide range of federal employment statutes and conducting in-depth legal research to analyze complex issues; OR demonstrated experience preparing legal documents, such as briefs and memoranda, while also negotiating agreements and settlements with third parties; OR litigating cases before administrative bodies or federal courts, or providing direct support as part of a trial team. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
