Position Overview
Job Description
Role Purpose:
The Counsel/Sr. Counsel, Intellectual Property within the Brands and Content IP team will provide strategic legal guidance and oversight on IP issues arising from content production, brand development and global expansion initiatives. They will serve as a key advisor to senior business leaders and collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to protect and enhance NBCUniversal’s IP assets.
Responsibilities:
- Counsel and collaborate with senior creative, business and legal executives and cross-functional teams on trademark, copyright, domain name and related IP matters, including innovative products and services, global brand launches and high-profile productions
- Responsible for clearance of titles, trademarks, character names and content-related assets for client businesses and strategic initiatives
- Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders on complex, multi-layered issues requiring immediate decisions
- Manage prosecution and enforcement of trademarks and other IP assets, both domestically and internationally
- Conduct due diligence and integration of IP assets in mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures
- Collaborate with BCIP colleagues in other regions to handle the brand protection and enforcement of NBCUniversal brands, for matters such as counterfeit takedowns, impersonation claims, infringements and customs seizures
- Handle domain name acquisitions and UDRP’s for client businesses
- Work with the rest of the department to support the overall intellectual property protection efforts of the company
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years for Counsel/8+ years for Senior Counsel of experience in the trademark or intellectual property field
- Must be a member in good standing of the California State Bar, or a member in good standing of another State Bar and registered as in-house counsel in California
Desired Characteristics:

- Solid project management and organizational capabilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in the entertainment industry strongly preferred
This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range: Counsel: $140,000 - $170,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible) / Senior Counsel: $165,000 - $200,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible).
