This Position
Prepares and posts daily court calendars by pulling files, organizing paperwork, and supporting courtroom needs, including notary services and certified copies. Provides front counter and phone assistance by greeting customers, answering inquiries, supplying forms, and ensuring filings meet court rules and procedures before routing them appropriately. Processes new domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault petitions, maintains accurate case records, and updates and distributes related documents. Verifies filing completeness, accepts and receipts payments, and ensures proper handling of financial transactions. Manages records requests, duplicates audio recordings, and prepares files for archiving. Provides coverage for additional clerical functions when needed, including processing minor offenses, supporting jury operations, and handling vital statistics such as marriage licenses.
Provides weekend courtroom support, including clerking arraignments and a variety of hearings, ensuring proceedings run on time, maintaining accurate records, administering oaths, managing exhibits, and supporting jury processes. Coordinates scheduling and courtroom logistics, including telephonic participation and playback of recordings, while maintaining security and proper documentation.
Completes post-hearing responsibilities by calendaring events, preparing and distributing court orders and legal documents, updating case and custody information, processing warrants, and closing cases in the system. Maintains courtroom readiness by troubleshooting recording equipment, coordinating with technical staff, and ensuring files, supplies, and systems meet operational standards. Works closely with judicial officers, attorneys, and agencies to support efficient court operations while handling sensitive materials and responsibilities that require a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
The Work Environment
This position will work 25 hours per week. The actual schedule will be determined between the hiring manager and the successful applicant.

The Kotzebue Court is located in the DMVA Armory on Third Avenue and provides easy access to the local grocery store, about half a mile away. When fully staffed, the Clerk’s office includes four full-time and one part-time Court Case Managers 2. If you are the selected applicant, you will become a part of the Kotzebue Trial Court helping to fulfill the mission of the Alaska Court System!

** This position participates in the Supplemental Benefits System (SBS), Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS), accrues personal leave, and receives up to 12 paid holidays. Optional coverage for health insurance benefits is also offered. The employee will be responsible for paying one-half of the premium for the coverage elected.
