Job Description
OQ SAOC (formerly Oman Oil Company) is seeking a Deputy General Counsel for its Muscat Hills headquarters. This executive role supports the General Counsel in managing legal affairs across OQ's integrated energy operations spanning exploration, refining, petrochemicals, and renewable energy in 17 countries.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee upstream and downstream legal operations including E&P concessions, refinery contracts, and product offtake agreements
- Manage international arbitration and dispute resolution across OQ's global portfolio
- Advise the Board on Omani hydrocarbons legislation, Royal Decrees, and regulatory compliance
- Lead legal aspects of OQ's green hydrogen and renewable energy diversification projects
- Manage relationships with external counsel in Oman and international offices
Requirements
- LLB and LLM from a top-tier university; energy or corporate specialisation
- 15+ years PQE with at least 7 years in the energy sector
- Experience managing in-house legal teams and external counsel panels
- Deep knowledge of Omani hydrocarbons legislation and international energy law
- Bilingual Arabic and English; additional languages an asset
Responsibilities
Oversee upstream/downstream legal operations. Manage international arbitrations. Advise Board. Lead renewable energy projects. Manage external counsel.
Requirements
LLB and LLM required. 15+ years PQE. 7+ years energy sector experience. In-house management experience. Bilingual Arabic/English.
