Job Description

Intellectual Property Paralegal — DLA Piper, City of London

DLA Piper is seeking an Intellectual Property Paralegal to join its market-leading IP and Technology practice on Noble Street in the City of London. DLA Piper's global IP practice is one of the largest in the world, handling trade mark portfolios, patent disputes, and brand protection for multinational corporations.

You will support the IP team on trade mark prosecution and portfolio management, patent and design searches, and IP due diligence on corporate transactions. This is an excellent stepping stone for aspiring solicitors interested in IP law.

Day-to-Day Work

  • Trade mark prosecution and renewal management using IP management systems
  • Patent and design right searches and freedom-to-operate analyses
  • IP due diligence on M&A transactions
  • Domain name disputes (UDRP proceedings)
  • Anti-counterfeiting and brand protection support

Responsibilities

  • Manage trade mark prosecution files, including applications, oppositions, and renewals
  • Conduct trade mark availability searches and prepare clearance reports
  • Assist with IP due diligence reviews on corporate transactions
  • Prepare and file trade mark applications at UKIPO, EUIPO, and WIPO
  • Support patent and design right disputes and litigation proceedings
  • Maintain IP portfolio databases and generate client reports

Requirements

  • Law degree (LLB or GDL) or IP-related qualification
  • Previous experience in IP paralegal or trade mark administrator role preferred
  • Knowledge of the Trade Marks Act 1994, Patents Act 1977, and CDPA 1988
  • Familiarity with UKIPO, EUIPO, and WIPO filing procedures
  • Experience with IP management databases (Anaqua, CPA, or similar) is desirable
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage large portfolios with multiple deadlines
