Job Description

The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) seeks an experienced Engineering Technician II to fill a vacancy in our Solid Waste Management Program. In this role the successful candidate will provide hands-on, technical support to monitor, operate and maintain environmental infrastructure at the I-95 and I-66 landfills, with an emphasis on leachate pumping infrastructure, landfill gas management systems and stormwater management facilities. Operate small construction equipment such as skid steer and forklift. Interpret maps and engineering plans. Gathers and analyzes monitoring data, and evaluates equipment performance to inform operation, maintenance, and repairs. Identify requirements and specifications necessary to repair and replace equipment and infrastructure. Maintains files and records to support environmental compliance requirements. Makes simple computations to determine the type and quantities of construction materials and equipment. Researches and evaluates new equipment for potential application at the landfill and maintain supplies. Designs simple structures. Engages in and adhere to Solid Waste Management safe working practices and comply with the DPWES Safety Competencies.
