Job Description

Primary Function of Position

The Analyst Logistics Compliance Operations – Americas is responsible for daily import and export operations and activities, processes, policies, and procedures within the region. He/she will serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external inquiries on the import, export, and trade regulations. This individual will work with the customs brokers and forwarders to ensure compliance with applicable company policies and import/ export regulations while ensuring the expeditious flow of goods. Additional duties include audit of import / export documentation, recordkeeping, AES filing, and trainings employees involved in the international trade.

Essential Job Duties

  • Perform import/export activities in compliance with government rules and regulations, organizational policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
  • Manage the daily trade compliance operations for the export transactions within the region by working with customs brokers, carriers, forwarders, and internal teams to ensure timely and accurately clearance process.
  • Monitor transactions for compliance with applicable export control laws and regulations, sanctions and embargoes, and anti-boycott regulations; authorize and resolve transaction holds, escalate transaction holds to supervisor for further resolution.
  • Respond to and action inquiries from internal and external partners and agencies regarding additional information required for customs clearance, government agency holds, and requests.
  • Provide support and guidance to internal and external customers for export shipments including hand carry and carnet shipments to meet regulatory requirements with the government agencies, i.e. Customs, Health Authorities (FDA), Agricultural agency, Department of Commerce and other global customs agencies.
  • Ensure the Importer Security Filing (ISF) for inbound ocean freight are submitted by the customs broker accurately and timely.
  • Manage and audit export recordkeeping completeness and accuracy to ensure compliance with the company record retention policy and international trade regulations.
  • Create manual creation of shipping documentation including, but not limited to, shipping invoices, packing list, shipper's letter of instruction, and other required certifications, including filing the export declaration through ACE.
  • Conduct Denied Party Screening and Embargo and Sanctions Control for off-system transactions.
  • Create and maintain customs brokers / forwarders POA and SOPs, including the POA from FPPI in the routes export transaction.
  • Monitor freight forwarders and customs brokers and evaluate adherence to Intuitive brokerage SOP and metrics. Lead and follow up with documented corrective action related to monthly brokerage metrics reports. Maintain broker and forwarder scorecard.
  • Develop and generate compliance and service provider performance reports for management.
  • Interact with IT and Center of Excellence (COE) to streamline and improve import/ export data for compliance; provide justification, business requirements, development, and assist with testing and solutions implementation.
  • Assist with the yearly validation for Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT).
  • Identify key opportunities for continuous process/ system improvements, implements solutions to eliminate identified compliance deficiencies.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of export manuals, policies and procedures, and trade compliance guidelines.
  • Monitor regulation changes, understand enforcement practices, update procedures accordingly and communicate as applicable.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects relating to logistics/ trade compliance.
  • Provide training to other functional groups on import and/ or export requirements.
  • Participate in various cost savings initiatives and strategic planning sessions to support Intuitive strategic goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to build awareness and internal partnerships for Intuitive Logistics Compliance activity.
  • Conduct and report findings of internal risk assessments. Follow-up with Compliance Improvement Plans.
  • Perform other duties, tasks, special projects as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong knowledge of Trade Compliance principles (customs valuation, incoterms, license and permits, country of origin, HTS/ ECCN classifications, duty optimization / Free Trade Agreements, export controls and sanctions etc.)
  • Knowledge of customs regulations, other government agencies (FDA, USDA, etc) importing regulations, EAR & Census Trade requirements.
  • Demonstrate analytical and change management skills, critical thinking, and problem solving with experience in risk management processes and gap analysis.
  • Familiar with databases, enterprise resource planning (ERP), global trade automation solutions, and the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) functionality.
  • Strong attention to detail and proficient recordkeeping and database maintenance skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) with ability to implement and conduct training.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, problem solving, and time management skills to meet or exceed deadlines, and maintain flexibility in fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Strong ability to create innovative solutions from existing resources.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently to make effective decisions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to manage and drive change.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and implement appropriately.
  • U.S. Citizenship, Permanent Residency, or equivalent working permit.

Required Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, international business, or similar.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of international trade experience, focusing primarily on international logistics and trade compliance in medical devices.
  • Licensed Customs Broker – U.S. or similar professional trade certifications.
