Job Description
Garment & Textile Industry Lawyer — Bun & Associates, BKK1, Phnom Penh
Bun & Associates is seeking a Lawyer specialising in Cambodia's garment and textile sector, the Kingdom's largest export industry. Based in BKK1, Phnom Penh, you will advise garment manufacturers, international buyers, and industry associations on trade compliance, labour regulations, and commercial contracts under the Labour Law (1997), Customs Law, and relevant trade preference schemes.
Cambodia's garment sector generates over $10 billion in annual exports and employs over 700,000 workers. Legal expertise in this sector is in high demand as the industry navigates evolving ESG standards and trade requirements.
Responsibilities
- Advise garment manufacturers on labour compliance, including minimum wage, overtime, and factory safety requirements
- Draft and negotiate buyer-supplier agreements, CMT contracts, and FOB manufacturing agreements
- Advise on rules of origin, customs classification, and trade preference eligibility under EBA and GSP schemes
- Handle trade disputes and customs disputes with the General Department of Customs and Excise
- Advise on environmental and social compliance standards required by international buyers
- Represent clients before the Arbitration Council on labour disputes arising in garment factories
Requirements
- 3-6 years' PQE in trade law, commercial law, or labour law with garment sector experience
- Admitted to the BAKC or eligible for admission
- Knowledge of the Labour Law, Customs Law, and EU/US trade preference schemes (EBA, GSP)
- Understanding of garment sector compliance programmes including Better Factories Cambodia
- Experience advising on export processing zones, bonded warehouses, and customs procedures
- Fluent Khmer and English
