Job Description

In-House Counsel — Upstream Operations, Eni Algeria

Eni, a global energy company with major operations in Algeria since 1981, is seeking an In-House Counsel to support its upstream exploration and production activities. Based in Algiers with periodic travel to operational sites in southern Algeria, this role provides exceptional exposure to international energy transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day legal support for Eni's upstream operations in Algeria, including the Berkine basin concessions
  • Draft, negotiate, and manage service contracts, drilling agreements, and supply chain contracts
  • Advise on regulatory compliance with Algeria's hydrocarbon law and ALNAFT requirements
  • Handle employment law matters for local and expatriate staff under the Algerian Labor Code
  • Manage insurance claims and HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) legal matters
  • Support dispute resolution, including pre-litigation negotiations and coordination with external counsel
  • Liaise with Sonatrach legal teams on joint venture matters

Requirements

Master's degree in Law from a recognized university. 4-7 years' experience in energy law, corporate law, or in-house legal at an energy or industrial company. Knowledge of Algerian hydrocarbons legislation and investment framework. Experience with upstream oil and gas contracts (service contracts, drilling agreements, JOAs). Fluency in French and English required; Arabic is an advantage. Familiarity with international arbitration and FIDIC contract forms. Prior experience in the oil and gas industry strongly preferred. Willingness to travel to operational sites.
