Key Responsibilities

  • Employment Advice and Counsel: Be a trusted legal advisor to management, the People Team and the business on sensitive and wide-ranging employment legal issues in India. Provide expert counsel on the full employee lifecycle: hiring, performance management, reorganizations, leaves of absence, compensation and benefits, terminations, and strategic projects..
  • Compliance Leadership: Partner with Okta’s legal ethics and compliance team on India-specific regulatory risks including anti-bribery (ABAC), competition law, human rights, prevention of sexual harassment (POSH), and third-party risks.
  • Operations & Scaling: Draft and maintain employment templates (contracts, handbooks) and develop scalable employment and compliance policies in coordination with US, and APJ, legal partners.
  • Dispute Management: Oversee employment-related litigation and manage outside counsel.
  • Training & Ethics: Design and deliver compliance training and outreach programs to foster Okta’s ethical culture.
  • Audits & Investigations: Coordinate with the ethics and compliance team and the People Team to conduct internal employment and compliance investigations and support compliance risk assessments and quarterly reporting.
  • Business Partner Engagement:  As the first India counsel for Okta, you will be the point of contact for a variety of issues arising from Okta’s operations in India and will be expected to partner with legal team members and other stakeholders to address various legal  issues that arise. 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience: 6+ years of legal practice (in-house or top-tier firm) focusing on employment and compliance for multinational, public companies.
  • Credentials: LLB from a BCI-recognised college and active certificate of practice to practice law in India.
  • Expertise: Deep knowledge of India’s labor laws and regulatory frameworks (anti-corruption, whistleblower directives, POSH, etc.).
  • Soft Skills: High integrity, pragmatic problem-solving, and the ability to juggle multiple projects in a high-growth environment. A collaborative spirit, self-motivation and the ability to work independently, and a sense of humor.
