Job Description
Cobalt, a premier Baltic law firm, is seeking a Junior Associate to join our Data Protection & Technology practice in Tallinn. This is an excellent opportunity for a recently qualified lawyer to build expertise in GDPR compliance, Estonian data protection law, and digital regulation.
You will advise Estonian and international clients, including e-Residency companies and tech startups, on data processing agreements, privacy impact assessments, and compliance with the Isikuandmete kaitse seadus (Personal Data Protection Act) and GDPR. The role includes interaction with the Andmekaitse Inspektsioon (Data Protection Inspectorate).
Estonia's advanced digital society and e-governance infrastructure make this a uniquely stimulating practice area.
Responsibilities
Draft and review data processing agreements and privacy policies for Estonian and international clients. Advise on GDPR compliance, including data protection impact assessments (DPIAs). Support clients in responding to Andmekaitse Inspektsioon inquiries and investigations. Research emerging EU digital regulation (AI Act, Data Act, Digital Services Act). Assist with e-Residency company compliance and cross-border data transfer matters.
Requirements
Oigusteaduse magister from a recognized Estonian or EU university. 1-2 years of experience in data protection or technology law, or strong academic background. Knowledge of GDPR and the Isikuandmete kaitse seadus (Personal Data Protection Act). Understanding of Estonia's digital ID and e-Residency frameworks. Fluent in Estonian and English.
