Patent Attorney
Position Overview
Job Description
We're looking for a Patent Attorney to build and own Lemonade's IP function from the ground up. You'll be our first dedicated patent hire, embedded directly in our engineering and R&D teams in Tel Aviv - turning the innovations our engineers ship every day into durable competitive protection that grows with the company.
We believe three things matter for every role at Lemonade: drive to push through challenges, efficiency that keeps standards high while moving fast, and adaptability that lets you pivot with data and AI insights. These aren't buzzwords, they're how we actually work.
Our AI-first approach isn't just a tagline either. We're building the future of insurance with AI at the center, and we need people who are genuinely excited to learn and grow alongside these tools.
In this role you'll:
Drive a high-velocity patent filing program (1-2 per week) across AI, machine learning, insurtech, and data systems - building Lemonade's IP portfolio from the ground up
Own our IP protection strategy end to end, including patents, copyrights, and trademarks, ensuring Lemonade's innovations are protected and defensible as we scale
Sit inside our R&D and engineering teams to identify what's patentable, attending sprint reviews, architecture discussions, and product sessions to build a steady invention pipeline
Run invention disclosure sessions with engineers, helping them articulate what they've built in IP terms
Monitor competitor patent filings and use IP analytics tools to surface trends that inform our filing strategy
Build the IP function as we grow - this is a ground-floor role, and the systems and processes you put in place will define how Lemonade thinks about IP for years
What you'll need:
Law degree and qualification as a patent attorney in Israel, or internationally qualified with the ability to practice in Israel
2-5 years of experience drafting and prosecuting patents - you're early in your career but you move fast and you want to build something
Strong technical grounding in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field - you can follow an architecture discussion without needing a translator
Experience with USPTO prosecution, familiarity with EPO or other jurisdictions is a bonus
Hands-on experience with copyrights and trademarks alongside patent work
A collaborative, people-first working style - engineers should enjoy talking to you and trust you to represent their work accurately
Genuine enthusiasm for technology and AI - you actively use these tools and see them as fundamental to how great IP work gets done
Business-minded instincts - you think about what protects the company strategically, not just what's technically patentable
Ready to work in an office environment most days of the week
