Job Description
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is recruiting Prosecution Counsel to handle criminal prosecution on behalf of the State. This is a constitutional office established under Article 157 of the Constitution of Kenya. Prosecution Counsel will be deployed across various courts in Kenya and will be responsible for prosecuting criminal cases, reviewing investigation files, and providing legal advice to law enforcement agencies.
Responsibilities
Prosecute criminal cases in Magistrates' Courts and High Court on behalf of the State. Review investigation files and advise investigating agencies on evidentiary matters. Draft charges, prepare witness statements, and compile trial bundles. Appear in court for plea, mention, hearing, and judgment dates. Handle appeals and reviews of criminal matters. Advise law enforcement agencies on legal and procedural matters.
Requirements
LLB degree from a recognized university. Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. Admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing certificate. Minimum 3 years post-admission experience. Strong knowledge of criminal law and procedure, Evidence Act, and Penal Code. Must comply with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
