Who We Are

Verkada is transforming how organizations protect their people and places with an integrated, AI-powered platform. A leader in cloud physical security, Verkada helps organizations strengthen safety and efficiency through one connected software platform that includes solutions for video security, access control, air quality sensors, alarms, intercoms, and visitor management.

Over 30,000 organizations worldwide, including more than 100+ companies in the Fortune 500, trust Verkada as their physical security layer for easier management, intelligent control, and scalable deployments. Founded in 2016, Verkada has expanded rapidly with 15 offices and 2,200+ full-time employees.

About the Role

Are you a trade compliance or product regulatory rockstar looking to expand your scope? Have you had a lot of experience working with product and engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle, tackling issues relating to trade compliance, IoT hardware and software compliance, and government procurement? If so, we'd love to hear from you, especially if you also have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • OFAC and import/export compliance issues for high-tech products
  • licensing and regulatory compliance for highly regulated products, like alarms or batteries; and/or
  • domestic and international regulatory compliance for connected devices.

This role, which reports directly to Verkada’s AGC for Product Legal, merges trade compliance and product regulatory functions and will be integral to ensuring that Verkada stays ahead of expanding regulatory requirements as we continue to scale rapidly. If you enjoy building from the ground up, this role is for you! We are an “in the office” company and this role is based in our headquarters in San Mateo, CA.

What You’ll Do

  • Be a legal go-to for the product, engineering, supply chain and operations teams, supporting them on all regulatory compliance needs related to Verkada’s product offerings, including global trade compliance, product compliance, and government procurement requirements
  • Partner closely with supply chain team and outside counsel during hardware development to determine jurisdiction, end use/user guardrails and licensing requirements based on EAR, ITAR and OFAC
  • Simplify and distill complex, evolving legal frameworks into guidance that accelerates—not slows—product delivery
  • Help design and operationalize cross-functional compliance programs for the builder org and own the implementation of scalable workflows for product regulatory licenses, starting with licenses for the alarms products
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on product-related regulatory issues, including in relevant import/export and government procurement laws (e.g., NDAA/TAA/BAA), and support systematic documentation of our ongoing compliance with those laws
  • Develop global internal controls, risk monitoring, and audit frameworks for OFAC, ITAR and emerging AI-related export controls that scale with the business
  • Monitor new and emerging developments in applicable worldwide regulations and laws, and identify potential impacts on current and future Verkada product offerings

What You Bring

  • 6 + years of compliance experience comprising a combination of trade compliance, software and/or hardware compliance, and regulatory support
  • Experience driving cross-functional collaboration at multinational, complex fast-growing global companies, preferably with high-tech B2B products
  • Experience implementing and maintaining compliance programs spanning many jurisdictions and product lines
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas strongly preferred: (1) US import/export laws, specifically ITAR, EAR and OFAC; (2) licensing and regulatory compliance for highly regulated products, like alarms or batteries; and/or (3) domestic and international regulatory compliance for connected devices (bonus points for NDAA and FedRAMP)
  • Excellent legal and business judgment with exceptional attention to detail
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines
