Senior Associate — International Trade & Sanctions

Baker McKenzie's Caracas office is recruiting a Senior Associate for its International Trade & Sanctions practice. You will advise multinational corporations and Venezuelan enterprises on navigating the complex sanctions landscape, export controls, and trade compliance issues affecting Venezuela.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise on US (OFAC), EU, and Canadian sanctions affecting Venezuelan entities and transactions
• Structure transactions to ensure compliance with Executive Order 13884 and related Venezuela sanctions programmes
• Draft sanctions compliance policies and procedures for multinational corporations operating in or with Venezuela
• Conduct sanctions screening and risk assessments for clients with Venezuelan exposure
• Coordinate with the firm's global trade and sanctions teams on cross-border matters

• Lead sanctions advisory engagements for the Caracas office
• Build relationships with multinational clients navigating Venezuela's sanctions environment
• Supervise associates on trade compliance matters
• Contribute to the firm's global sanctions knowledge management

• Law degree (Abogado) from a Venezuelan university; LLM in International Trade Law preferred
• Registered with the Inpreabogado
• 6-9 years post-qualification experience in international trade, sanctions, or regulatory compliance
• Fluent in Spanish and English (bilingual drafting essential)
• Strong knowledge of OFAC regulations, EU sanctions framework, and Venezuelan foreign trade law
